Moutet Defeated by Paul at Delray Beach | Atmane Remains for France
Tommy Paul defeated Corentin Moutet in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, at the Delray Beach Open on Tuesday, eliminating the last remaining French player in the Florida tournament. The match lasted two hours and 31 minutes.
Moutet, returning to competition after his third-round loss to Carlos Alcaraz at the Australian Open nearly a month ago, showed early promise, securing a break in the first set to take a 4-4 lead. He then consolidated his advantage to claim the opening set.
Paul, who had also faced Alcaraz in Melbourne, responded in the second set, breaking Moutet at 3-2 and holding serve to level the match. The momentum continued to shift in Paul’s favor in the deciding set. Despite Moutet breaking back to lead 3-1, Paul won the next four games.
Paul faced a determined Moutet in the final game, needing to save ten match points before securing the victory on his own serve. He will next face Australian Adam Walton, who previously defeated Gabriel Diallo. Terence Atmane remains the sole French competitor in the tournament, scheduled to play Flavio Cobolli on Wednesday.
At the Australian Open earlier this year, Alcaraz defeated Moutet 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 in the third round, a match that lasted two hours and five minutes. Alcaraz then progressed to the fourth round where he faced Tommy Paul. Moutet’s best previous result at the Australian Open was reaching the quarter-finals in both 2024 and 2025.
