Mount Dukono Eruption: Three Hikers Dead in Indonesia
Three people were killed Friday morning following an eruption of Mount Dukono in Indonesia.
The victims include two Singaporean nationals and one local resident, according to reports from authorities and news outlets. In addition to the fatalities, Police Chief Erlichson confirmed that 15 people have been transported to the hospital to receive treatment for injuries sustained during the eruption.
Authorities stated that the hiking party had proceeded with the ascent despite an official climbing ban currently in place for the volcano. Police are now questioning the individuals who accompanied the hikers up the mountain to determine the circumstances surrounding the excursion.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing as Indonesian authorities work to locate other hikers who remain missing.
