Motorola MA2: New Wireless Android Auto Adapter with Multipoint Support

Motorola unveiled its next-generation wireless Android Auto adapter, the MA2, at MWC 2026, aiming to eliminate the need for physical cables connecting smartphones to in-car entertainment systems. The device, a successor to the popular MA1 released in January 2022, was showcased at ShowStoppers on the sidelines of the Barcelona trade show, according to Motorola.

Like its predecessor, the MA2 is designed to convert a vehicle’s wired Android Auto system to a wireless connection. However, the recent adapter introduces several key improvements, including multipoint Bluetooth pairing. This feature allows two smartphones to be simultaneously connected, enabling seamless switching between drivers or passengers without requiring manual reconnection.

The physical design of the MA2 has also been updated. It features a flatter, square shape, departing from the rounded “squircle” form factor of the MA1. Motorola is addressing a common complaint with the original adapter by including both USB-A and USB-C cables in the box, increasing compatibility with a wider range of vehicles. Users also have the option to use their own cables if preferred.

Practical enhancements have been added for everyday use. A dedicated on/off switch allows users to prevent unwanted connections and conserve battery life in cars with always-on USB ports. An LED indicator provides visual confirmation of the connection status. The adapter continues to utilize 5GHz Wi-Fi for the wireless Android Auto connection, with Bluetooth handling the initial pairing and automatic reconnection process.

The original Motorola MA1 quickly gained popularity after its release, becoming the first wireless Android Auto adapter to receive official backing from Google. While other adapters, such as those from AAWireless, have been available, the MA1 benefited from Google’s direct endorsement. The MA1 is currently available for $45, a significant reduction from its original price of $90.

Motorola is targeting a May launch for the MA2, with US availability expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026. The company anticipates a price point of approximately $40, positioning the MA2 as a more affordable option compared to competing wireless Android Auto adapters like the AAWireless Two+, while still offering core functionality.

An FCC listing discovered in February 2026 revealed details about the MA2’s design and features prior to the official announcement, including the detachable cable design and the presence of an unidentified switch on the device’s side.
