Man Discovers He’s Listed as Deceased in Turkish health System, Despite Having Three Children As ‘Death’
ISTANBUL – A Turkish man, Ömer Kuştil, recently discovered he has been registered as deceased in the national health system for the past five years, a bureaucratic error stemming from the 2018 death of his newborn baby.The shocking revelation came to light when Kuştil attempted to access his medical records through his family physician last week.
“I needed a medical report to give my workplace,” Kuştil explained. “I applied to my family physician, but could not access my facts. Than he gave me information that I was seen as dead in the records.”
The error appears to originate from a state hospital in 2018, following the birth and subsequent death of his child.Kuştil believes his own information was mistakenly entered into the system as the deceased infant’s data. “As then, I have been looking dead in the health system,” he stated. “I think my own information is entered instead of my died baby’s knowledge.”
Despite being officially “dead,” Kuştil has as fathered three children wiht his wife, Sibel Kuştil. “Ther were 3 children in this process. Until I applied to my family physician last week,this was never noticed,” he said.
The error caused complications during his wife’s risky pregnancy in 2020, preventing him from receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. “At that time, the vaccine was not defined and the Covid-19 vaccine could not be hit. When I received the entrance to make the hospital operation, ‘There is a problem with the system so it does not open’ was said. Now I understand that I could not vaccinate becuase I appeared dead.”
Kuştil and his wife have filed complaints with the Provincial Health Directorate, but have yet to receive a resolution. “I want to eliminate this victim,” Kuştil said, expressing concern that he may be denied medical care should an emergency arise.
“I have been said to be dead 3 children,” Sibel Kuştil stated, adding that she learned of the error just a week ago and remains in shock. “We have been dealing with this event for days.”
