Ukrainian strike Reported at Power Plant Near Moscow
SHATURA,MOSCOW OBLAST – A Ukrainian strike reportedly hit the Shatura Thermal Power Plant in Moscow Oblast overnight on Nov. 23, according to Russian Telegram media channels.
Purported videos posted on social media appear to show a large explosion adn subsequent fire at the plant, following a projectile impact. The Kyiv Independent has not independently verified these reports, and Ukraine‘s military has not yet commented on the alleged attack.
The Shatura Thermal Power Plant is located approximately 120 kilometers (75 miles) east of Moscow,in the outskirts of Moscow Oblast.
Earlier in the night, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that two Ukrainian drones were shot down while approaching the capital. russia’s aviation authority,Rosaviatsiya,stated that Moscow’s Zhukovsky Airport temporarily suspended operations due to the drone activity.
Ukraine routinely conducts strikes against military and industrial facilities within Russia and Russian-occupied territories, primarily utilizing domestically developed drones. Kyiv has recently intensified attacks targeting Russian oil, gas, and energy infrastructure – key revenue sources funding Moscow’s all-out invasion of Ukraine.
Currently, no information is available regarding the extent of damage or potential casualties resulting from the reported strike on the Shatura Thermal Power Plant.
The incident occurs amid escalating reciprocal attacks on critical infrastructure. Moscow has also intensified attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in an attempt to disrupt power and heating as winter approaches.
