Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection Expands to Include Mythologies, Special Forces & Ultimate MK3 - But Where’s Gold?
Digital Eclipse is bolstering the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection with a wider range of titles than initially announced, including Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, adn “WaveNet” Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. The extensive collection, slated for release on PlayStation 5,Xbox Series X/S,Switch 2,PlayStation 4,Xbox One,switch, and PC via Steam in 2025,aims to deliver a definitive history of the iconic fighting game franchise.
The full list of confirmed titles now includes Mortal kombat,Mortal Kombat 2,Mortal kombat 3,Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3,Mortal Kombat 4 (arcade version only),Mortal Kombat Advance,Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (Game Boy Advance version only),mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition,Mortal Kombat trilogy,Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero,and Mortal Kombat: Special Forces.
However, the inclusion of these titles has also highlighted a notable omission: Mortal Kombat Gold. This Dreamcast exclusive, considered an enhanced version of Mortal Kombat 4 with added characters and content, has sparked questions from fans.
Digital Eclipse’s Dan Amrich addressed the absence of Mortal Kombat Gold in a recent interview with Mortal Kombat Secrets (as reported by EventHubs).Amrich explained that while the progress team wanted to include the game, technical hurdles currently prevent its inclusion.
“So,keeping in mind that Digital eclipse has been emulating for years and years,we were the company that has made the first commercial emulation. Our first game emulated three Williams arcade games - Robotron, Joust and Defender for Macintosh – in the early 1990s,” Amrich stated, emphasizing the company’s long history with emulation technology.
He continued, “This was the first time we advanced with PlayStation emulation. Dreamcast represents four years of advanced technology and we like it. Mortal Kombat gold? Yes! Did we hear you asked? yes! Do we want? Yes! Is it something we would like to do at some point in the future? We would love it. Do we have plans to do this now? No.Should you wait for it? No.”
Amrich acknowledged the game’s popularity, stating, “Honestly… I know why everyone loves… I still have my Dreamcast. I still have my record Mortal kombat Gold at home… so,I understand the appeal of Mortal Kombat Gold. I know why everyone wants it. But we are not ready yet for that.”
The key takeaway from amrich’s comments is the word “yet.” He suggests that Mortal Kombat Gold, and possibly other titles, could be added to the Legacy kollection through DLC or a future package. However, he also clarified that Digital Eclipse currently has no concrete plans for downloadable content, leaving the possibility open for the future.
