TERREBONNE, QC – A construction worker died Sunday afternoon following an accident on Florimond-Gauthier Street in the Saint-jean Island sector of Terrebonne. The incident occurred as crews were performing aqueduct work and roadway repairs,prompting a full street closure.
Emergency services responded to the scene shortly before 1:00 p.m. and attempted resuscitation, but the worker was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The victim’s identity has not yet been released by authorities.
Terrebonne Mayor Mathieu Traversy expressed his condolences in a Facebook post, stating, “All my thoughts go to the family of the deceased worker, his colleagues from the company carrying out the work and the first respondents who intervened on the scene.”
The Intermunicipal Police Service of Terrebonne, in collaboration with the Commission des normes, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST), has launched a joint investigation to determine the cause of the accident. As of Monday morning, the cause remains unknown.
Florimond-Gauthier Street remains closed between Chemin du Moulin and Rue Saint-Jean. Local authorities have not provided an estimated time for the road to reopen. This section of the street was undergoing scheduled infrastructure improvements as part of a larger municipal project to upgrade the area’s water and road systems.
