Morrissey Cancels boston and Foxwoods Shows Following Death Threat
BOSTON – British singer Morrissey has canceled his scheduled performances at MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston on Saturday night and at Foxwoods resort on Friday, following what has been described as a “credible threat” to his life.
MGM Music Hall announced the cancellation, stating, “In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life.Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band, tomorrow’s engagement…has been cancelled.”
The cancellations come after an Ottawa man was arrested and charged with threatening to shoot Morrissey at a music festival in Ottawa last weekend. The Ottawa Citizen reported the man has since been released on bail and is currently staying with his father in Washington, D.C. Despite the threat, Morrissey performed in Ottawa and New York earlier this week.
According to a post on Morrissey’s official social media pages, “All tickets will be refunded automatically at your original point of purchase. We appreciate your understanding.”
Morrissey, 66, rose to fame as the frontman of The Smiths and is known for hits such as “Everyday Is Like Sunday,” “Suedehead,” “First of the Gang to Die,” and “The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get.”
