Morocco Green Hydrogen Strategy: Investments & Project Updates

Morocco Advances Green Hydrogen Strategy with Key Project Approvals

Rabat – Morocco is solidifying its position as a leading global player in green hydrogen‍ with significant progress announced following a meeting of the Steering Committee for the Morocco of Green Hydrogen, chaired by ‍Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch on Wednesday, September 17th. The developments​ align with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to establish‌ the⁢ Kingdom as a key energy hub.

The ‌committee confirmed the triumphant completion‌ of the​ preliminary‌ phase of the “Chbika 1″ project, a venture led by a consortium of French and Danish investors. This achievement paves the way for in-depth⁣ studies ⁣and the eventual realization of the project.

Furthermore, the committee approved preliminary land booking contracts for​ five national and foreign investors, chosen during​ a selection process on March‍ 6th,​ 2025. These investors will develop six large-scale projects in Morocco’s ​southern regions, ⁣representing a total investment of 319 billion dirhams.

Prime Minister akhannouch ⁣lauded the “positive momentum” of these ⁣initiatives, emphasizing‍ the King’s strong commitment to​ the green hydrogen​ sector. He highlighted that ​the influx of investment​ demonstrates confidence ⁤in⁤ Morocco and‍ reinforces its status as a regional and international energy leader.

Akhannouch stressed the ⁤importance ‌of coordinated planning for essential ‌infrastructure – including electricity, ports, and desalination ‍facilities -‍ to ensure projects remain on schedule. He also underscored ⁤the commitment to transparency, balanced partnerships,⁤ and ⁣responsible management of public land.

Morocco remains open to further investment, ​leveraging its strategic location, diverse natural resources, ⁢and internationally-aligned infrastructure to attract new partners and continue ⁢building its green hydrogen capacity.
