Incident Details Emerge
Following the hard landing, a statement from Turkish Airlines Communication Chairman Yahya Üstün clarified the situation. He confirmed that the aircraft, a Boeing 777, made a normal landing on the runway in Antalya. However, upon proceeding to the taxiway, fire brigade teams observed an issue.
In adherence to the advice of the firefighters, an emergency evacuation was initiated as a precautionary measure. Passengers were safely disembarked using emergency slides.
“Our passengers’ evacuation was conducted without any injuries. An additional flight has been arranged for the return journey, and our authorized teams have commenced technical examinations of the aircraft. Initial findings suggest a hydraulic pipe failure may have caused the issue.”
—Yahya Üstün, Turkish Airlines Communication Chairman
The swift action ensured no passengers were harmed during the incident. The average number of onboard passengers for a Boeing 777 is around 300-400, making the safe evacuation a significant operational success. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the passenger fatality rate for aviation incidents has historically been very low, underscoring the effectiveness of safety protocols (IATA Safety Report 2022).
Technical examinations have begun to determine the full extent of the damage and the precise cause of the hydraulic pipe failure. The airline has confirmed arrangements are in place for affected passengers.
