Molly Shannon, Will Ferrell Join Netflix Comedy After Creative Shakeup

Breaking: Molly Shannon has joined the cast of a new Netflix comedy series starring her former Saturday Night Live colleague, Will ferrell. the addition comes amid a creative shakeup behind the scenes of the currently untitled project.

the series, initially announced in May 2024, centers around Ferrell portraying a fictional golf icon. This marks Ferrell’s first venture into a continuing comedy series role, diverging from his established work in sketch and variety formats like SNL. Shannon, known for her recent appearances in Only murders in the Building and The Other Two, will play a character named Stacy.

However, the project has experienced a shift in creative leadership. Ramy Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz, originally credited as co-creators and executive producers, have departed due to creative differences, according to sources. Andy Campagna, from Youssef’s Cairo Cowboy production company, has also left the series.

Ferrell and Shannon have a long-standing collaborative history, extending beyond their time on Saturday Night Live. Their previous projects include the SNL-inspired films A Night at the Roxbury (1998) and Superstar (1999), IFC’s critically acclaimed miniseries The Spoils of Babylon (2014) and The Spoils Before Dying (2015), and memorable appearances as the eccentric TV hosts Tish Cattigan and Cord Hosenbeck at events like the 2018 Rose Parade and the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle.

Executive producing the netflix series are Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Alix Taylor for Gloria Sanchez Productions, a company co-founded by Ferrell and Beth Swofford in 2006 and based in Los Angeles, California.Joining them are Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, and Nena Rodrigue of T-Street Productions, alongside Chris Henchy, Harper Steele, David Gordon Green, and Andrew Guest. The latter four joined the production following the departure of Youssef,Rabinowitz, and Campagna.

Despite the changes, Youssef remains connected to Netflix through a first-look deal signed in 2023. He and Ramy actor Steve Way are currently developing a new series for the streamer, set within a living facility. Cairo Cowboy, Youssef’s production company, will continue to operate under this agreement.
