Mohamed Salah to Leave Liverpool: Egyptian Star Confirms Exit After 9 Seasons
Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian forward who has become a global icon during his nine seasons at Liverpool, will leave the club at the conclude of the current campaign. The player confirmed his departure via social media, bringing an end to a remarkably successful era at Anfield.
“Sadly, the day has come,” Salah wrote. “This is the first part of my farewell. I will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.”
Salah’s announcement follows the departures of manager Jürgen Klopp in 2024, and previously, key teammates Roberto Firmino (2023) and Sadio Mané (2022). The exits mark the end of a dominant attacking trio that propelled Liverpool to numerous titles, including the 2019 Champions League and the 2020 Premier League.
During his time with Liverpool, Salah secured two Premier League titles, one Champions League title, one FA Cup, two League Cups, one UEFA Super Cup, and one FIFA Club World Cup. He has established himself as one of the club’s all-time greats.
“We won the most important titles and fought together through the most tricky times of my life,” Salah stated. “I want to thank everyone who has been part of this club during my time. I don’t have enough words. I will never forget your support.”
The 33-year-old forward, whose contract was set to run until June 2027, emphasized the deep connection he forged with the club and its supporters. “I never imagined how deeply this club, this city and its people would become a part of my life,” he said. “Liverpool is not just a football club, it’s a passion, a history, a spirit that I can’t explain with words.”
“Leaving is never easy. I will always be one of you and this club will always be my home. Thank you for everything. For you, I will never walk alone,” he added.
This season, Salah has experienced a relative dip in form, with five goals and six assists in all competitions. He was also sidelined for a month due to participation in the Africa Cup of Nations. He endured a ten-game scoreless streak in the Premier League before finding the net against Wolverhampton Wanderers, marking his worst run in front of goal since joining the club in 2017.
Despite the recent struggles, Salah’s overall record for Liverpool remains exceptional. He has made 435 appearances for the club, scoring 255 goals and providing 119 assists, placing him third in Liverpool’s all-time goalscoring charts.
Liverpool confirmed that Salah had reached an agreement to conclude his nine-year chapter at Anfield, and that he wished to make the announcement promptly to demonstrate respect and gratitude towards the club’s supporters.
