Mobile Speed Camera Activated in Konstanz, Targeting Traffic Violators & Boosting Safety
Konstanz, Germany – A newly deployed mobile speed camera, affectionately nicknamed “Toni” by its operators, began issuing fines of 50 euros to traffic offenders in Konstanz on Wednesday. The device, operated by Stefan katterre and Svenja Klement, captures data via a tablet interface and aims to enforce speed limits and improve pedestrian safety in the city’s station square.
While the system is expected to generate meaningful revenue – perhaps a substantial sum even accounting for administrative overhead and error correction – city officials emphasize the primary goal isn’t financial. Julia Lange, from the city press office, stated the initiative’s core purpose is to encourage adherence to traffic regulations and enhance safety for pedestrians in the area. The deployment follows a recent announcement that existing speed cameras have already contributed 1.6 million euros to the city’s coffers, wiht plans to install three additional units.
The camera photographs all vehicles passing its lens, and drivers exceeding the speed limit will receive a fine. City officials hope the visible presence of “Toni” will deter speeding and other traffic violations, creating a safer surroundings for all.
