MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A former Mobile attorney is accused of scamming his clients for a second time.

“Attorneys are held to a higher standard of trust,” said Chief Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Susman. “We deal with incredibly vital issues, life-changing issues adn if we are not doing our job properly the significant rights of everybody in our community can be negatively affected.”

Chief Assistant district Attorney Jennifer Susman said Darryl Blackmon will be held accountable.

“it’s so important that we continue to police our own within the state bar and that way we hold people criminally accountable when they violate that trust,” she said.

According to court documents, Blackmon was arrested in 2024, accused of unauthorized practice of law, identity theft and two counts of theft of property.

Susman said his license was suspended and he was disbarred shortly after.

But she said Blackmon continued receiving payments and offering legal services when he wasn’t supposed to.

he was arrested again yesterday and faces two charges, unauthorized practice of law and theft of property.

According to the Alabama Bar Association, in 2023 Blackmon was publicly reprimanded for violating rules of professional conduct.

The statement said he failed to return one of his client’s calls,emails,text messages and didn’t even appear in court.

Susman said anyone looking for a lawyer who might run across a situation similar to what Blackmon is accused of doing, there are some things you can do to avoid being the next victim.

“The Alabama State Bar has a website where you can make sure anybody that you’re seeking to retain is in good standing with the state bar, and if you have a complaint or concern about your attorney you can always make a report to the state bar,” Susman said.

Blackmon is scheduled to be in court on August 6th.
