Mississippi State Predicted to Defeat Northern Illinois in Week 4 Matchup
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State is heavily favored to secure a victory against Northern illinois in their Week 4 contest on September 21, 2024, according to predictions. The Bulldogs are coming off a dominant 63-0 win against Alcorn State, while Northern Illinois has a history of upsetting Power Five programs.
Mississippi State has demonstrated a strong start to the season, scoring touchdowns on all three opening possessions and outscoring opponents 48-3 in the first quarter and 72-13 in the first half. Quarterback Blake Shapen has developed a strong connection wiht receivers Brenen thompson,who is fourth in the SEC with 278 receiving yards,and Anthony Evans III. The Bulldogs’ cornerbacks are also performing well, with Kelley Jones holding the third-best coverage grade (81.1) in the SEC, allowing only two receptions on 12 targets.
Despite Mississippi State’s offensive prowess, Northern Illinois has a track record of success against Power Conference teams, including wins against Notre Dame (2023), Boston College (2023), and Georgia Tech (2021).Thay nearly upset Maryland in Week 2, trailing by only four points late in the game. The huskies have also limited opponents to an average of just 74 rushing yards per game against Holy Cross and Maryland.
