Miss Nevada USA Makes History, Embraces Baldness on Miss USA Stage
Las Vegas, NV – October 22, 2024 – Mary Sickler, the current Miss nevada USA, made a powerful statement on the Miss USA preliminary stage tonight, choosing to showcase her natural appearance and embrace her alopecia universalis by appearing without a wig during the evening wear competition. The 22-year-old is believed to be the first contestant in the national pageant’s history to compete with alopecia.
Sickler, crowned Miss Nevada USA in July, initially wore a brunette wig for the swimsuit portion of the competition. However, for her final appearance, she left the wig backstage and stepped onto the stage bald, adorned with a jewel-encrusted headpiece that complemented her blue and silver form-fitting gown, sparkling teardrop earrings, and smoky makeup.
Diagnosed with alopecia universalis in december 2024, Sickler’s decision to reveal her true self resonated deeply. Following the moment, she reflected on the significance of her participation on Instagram, writing, “This dream has been so many years in the making, and to finally step into this moment feels surreal. I never imagined I would walk that stage in this way,but I always hoped I would do it with confidence, authenticity, and grace.”
Her appearance is being hailed as a courageous act of self-acceptance and a landmark moment for representation in the beauty industry.
