Mint Mobile has entered the 5G home internet market with its new service, MINTernet, offering unlimited data plans starting at $30 per month. The service leverages T-Mobile‘s 5G network to deliver home internet access, presenting a perhaps more affordable alternative to traditional broadband providers.
MINTernet aims to disrupt the home internet landscape by offering competitive pricing, notably for existing Mint Mobile phone plan customers. The launch comes as demand for fixed wireless access (FWA) – home internet delivered via cellular networks – continues to grow, offering a viable option for those in areas with limited broadband choices or seeking a simpler, contract-free experience.
MINTernet is available in three plan lengths: a 3-month plan for $40/month ($120 upfront), dropping to $30/month ($90 upfront) for Mint phone plan subscribers; a 6-month plan for $45/month ($270 upfront) or $35/month ($210 upfront) with a phone plan; and a 12-month plan for $40/month ($480 upfront) or $30/month ($360 upfront) with a qualifying phone plan. All plans include a free 5G gateway (modem/Wi-fi router) and a 14-day money-back guarantee.
The service runs on T-Mobile’s 5G network. One reviewer’s initial experience with T-Mobile’s 5G home internet in 2022 resulted in service issues, but a revisit in 2024 showed improved performance, averaging over 600 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload speeds. T-Mobile Home internet typically costs $50/month with autopay, meaning MINTernet could save customers up to $20/month.
