Minisforum has unveiled its new mini-PC, the MS-S1 Max, boasting cutting-edge connectivity including USB4 v2 and support for discrete graphics. The compact system features up to 128GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory and a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, despite its small form factor and 320W power supply (with 160W allocated to the CPU).
The MS-S1 Max is notable for integrating a Radeon 80660S APU capable of 1080p gaming, yet also offering the option to install a graphics card – likely limited to models like the RTX 5060 Ti or lower due to power and size constraints. Beyond the PCIe slot, connectivity highlights include two USB4 v2 ports (80 Gbps, backward compatible with v1 at 40 Gbps), dual 10 GBE Ethernet, WiFi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. A key question remains regarding the system’s chipset – whether Minisforum utilizes a dedicated chipset to maximize PCIe lane availability or relies solely on the CPU’s 16 PCIe 4.0 lanes, potentially requiring arbitration for connectivity. Pricing and thermal management details are currently unavailable.
