‘Minecraft‘ Sequel Officially greenlit, Set for July 23, 2027 Release
Warner Bros. Pictures has announced a sequel to this year’s box office hit, A Minecraft Movie, with a scheduled release date of July 23, 2027. The confirmation, shared via an official Instagram post featuring the film’s poster, comes after the first installment’s surprising commercial success despite mixed critical reception.
A Minecraft Movie, directed by Jared Hess, grossed over $957 million worldwide upon its April release. The film’s popularity was further fueled by a viral social media trend centered around the “Chicken Jockey” element within the game.
Hess will return to direct the sequel, co-writing the script alongside Chris Galletta. Hess is also known for directing Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre. Warner Bros. stated that further details regarding production will be “hidden in the mine” for the time being.
Jason Momoa, who starred in the first film, will also serve as a producer alongside Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, and Torfi Frans Ólafsson. The returning cast of the first film, led by Momoa and Jack Black, has not yet been confirmed.
