Robertson’s Derby Day advice Fuels Kerkez‘s Liverpool Performance
LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Liverpool full-back milos Kerkez revealed that advice from teammate Andy Robertson played a key role in his performance during Saturday’s Merseyside derby. Kerkez,who joined the club this summer,stated he is focused on adhering to the tactical instructions of the coaching staff,a message reinforced by Robertson.
“I’m just following what the coach is telling me so what he tells me I’m doing every week and that’s what will keep me playing,” Kerkez said post-match. he noted a shift in his role compared to his time at Bournemouth, where he enjoyed “a bit more freedom,” but emphasized the importance of prioritizing team objectives under his current manager. “In Bournemouth I played I would say a bit more on the higher line and had a bit more freedom. But here, you play more for the team, for points and to win so you have to look for the team.”
Kerkez highlighted a specific tactical adjustment for the derby, stating, “I’m playing a bit different here…sometiems I’m dropping lower to play and to keep the ball.” He added that the coach specifically requested more freedom in Saturday’s match,and he intends to continue following instructions.
The 20-year-old also expressed his growing connection with virgil van Dijk, noting thay are “building a good connection” and “defending well” as they play more together. Kerkez acknowledged the need for continued adaptation as new players like Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak integrate into the squad, but remains optimistic about the team’s future.
Despite Liverpool going 2-0 up, Kerkez admitted the team’s intensity dropped, allowing the opposition back into the game, but praised the team’s mental fortitude in securing the win.He reiterated his commitment to improving and contributing to the team’s success, stating, “I want to improve, I want to give everything for the badge.”
