Mika, a 26-year-old participant from Love Is Blind: Netherlands, has opened up about her divorce from Jurriaan and the realities of facing the dating world again following their high-profile split. Although the couple got married on the program, they officially separated following the show’s reunion, marking an unexpected end to their relationship after Jurriaan withdrew from her and Mika felt burned out.
Reflecting on the Split and Online Backlash
Addressing the online reactions and public scrutiny, Mika shared in a statement that reading the feedback was painful because she felt she was letting down her community. She stated: I’ve seen the reactions. And honestly, while it was really painful to read them at first, because it makes me sad to disappoint people, I’m still trying to take something from this and reflect critically on myself.
She also reflected on Jurriaan’s controversial pod comment where he stated he wouldn’t fall for a fully Black woman,
noting that while she felt rejected and had doubts at the time, they had already shared many meaningful conversations and her gut told her he was a good person.
Jurriaan also addressed the backlash on his Instagram, stating that he watched the footage back, understands the impact of his words, and never intended to hurt anyone based on skin color or background. He stated: Over the past few days, I have consciously taken the time to let everything that happened sink in and to reflect on it. I have watched the footage back myself, and I can better understand the impact of what I said.
He added: I recognise that what I said was hurtful and that people felt hurt, offended or excluded because of it. I take full responsibility for that.
