Michelin Star Taqueria Comes to Tucson for Pop-Up Event

Mexico City’s First Michelin-Starred Taqueria, ⁢El ​Califa de León, Launches​ Exclusive Tucson pop-Up

TUCSON, AZ​ – A taste of Mexico City’s culinary elite has arrived in Tucson. El Califa de​ león, the‍ first taqueria in Mexico City to receive‌ a Michelin star, ⁣is hosting a limited-time pop-up event in partnership with local restaurant Agave House, beginning September 4th and running through September 14th. The event aims to showcase Mexico City tourism and offer Arizonans​ a rare opportunity ‌to experience ‍authentic,​ world-class‌ tacos without leaving the state.

The pop-up, coordinated by safety-focused travel ⁢app GrinGO, celebrates a newly signed Memorandum of understanding between GrinGO and Mexico City.‌ This collaboration underscores a growing effort to promote tourism to the Mexican capital, notably its renowned culinary scene where taco tours are a major draw. For 56 years, El Califa de León has ‌been a beloved, local secret in Mexico City, and this ⁤event marks‌ only‌ the second time the taqueria has brought its flavors to⁢ Arizona, following a similar event in‌ tempe in may.

The pop-up will operate from 3 to 9 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays⁤ at Agave House, located at 943‌ E. University Blvd. “We’re excited to⁤ bring the taste of Mexico City back⁤ to Arizona,” said Brian Krupski, founder and CEO of GrinGO, in a ⁤statement. “This collaboration…gives Arizonans another rare opportunity to experience ⁤one of the best tacos in the world – without leaving the state – right here in the heart of Tucson.”
