Michael Carrick insists he will be in charge of United against Roma
“Yes,” Michael Carrick answered on TNT Sports when asked if he would still be in charge at Old Trafford for Roma’s visit.
Manchester United face Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday, with Carrick insisting he will remain at the helm despite a 2-0 defeat away to Chelsea on Saturday. Second-half goals from Morgan Rogers and a Cole Palmer penalty at Stamford Bridge condemned United to their third straight defeat and a fourth loss in their last five matches.
Extending the Winless Run
The latest reverse extends United’s winless run to nine matches across all competitions. This marks the club’s first such sequence of matches without a victory since 1988.

United sat just above the bottom three in the Premier League table prior to the afternoon fixtures. Carrick addressed the possibility of falling into the relegation zone. “There’s no words I’m going to explain to you now that makes it any different,” he said. “It’s not going to change it. We’ve got to move forward and win matches, it’s as simple as that.”
Incidents at Stamford Bridge
United created several clear scoring opportunities during a strong first-half display, but failed to convert. The match shifted decisively in the second half when Morgan Rogers broke through the central defense to open the scoring. “It’s never a good goal to concede,” Carrick said. “Morgan went through the middle of us and at that point the game was right in the balance. To concede like that was a big moment. I’m just looking forward to getting the boys ready for midweek now.”

The visiting side’s task grew harder when defender Lisandro Martínez received two yellow cards. Martínez was initially booked for kicking out at Rogers before receiving a second yellow card and a red for an arm into the face of Wesley Fofana, conceding the penalty from which Palmer scored Chelsea’s second goal.
Carrick declined to criticize Martínez for the dismissal. “It was a major part of the game,” he said. “The second goal and losing the man at that stage had a big influence on it.”

Chelsea Move into Fourth Place Before Roma Fixture
The victory moved Chelsea into fourth place in the league table, providing a positive response after a league defeat to Tottenham and a Carabao Cup penalty exit against Liverpool. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso praised the team’s intensity and highlighted the performance of Brazil winger Estêvão Willian on his first league start of the season, noting that the player showed he deserved more opportunities.
Carrick maintained focus on the upcoming European fixture against Roma. “We have got to move forward and take the things that worked for us today,” he said. “A lot of the good things, especially in the first half and use that moving forward.”
