Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2: Release Date, Games & Platforms

Konami announced today that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, a title long exclusive to the PlayStation 3, will be included in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, slated for release on August 27, 2026. The announcement came during Sony’s State of Play presentation on Thursday.

The collection will also feature a remastered version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, originally released for the PSP and later ported to the PS3 and Xbox 360, according to Konami. Preorders for the digital version of the collection are available now on the PlayStation Store for $50, as confirmed by the PlayStation Blog.

Metal Gear Solid 4’s inclusion marks a significant shift, as it has remained unavailable on any platform other than the PS3 since its 2008 debut. The game’s complex architecture, designed to take advantage of the PS3’s Cell processor, presented challenges for porting to more modern systems, according to Engadget.

Beyond the two main titles, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will include screenplay and master books for both games, as well as a digital soundtrack. A bonus inclusion is Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, a Game Boy Color title released in 2000, though Konami notes this entry is considered non-canon within the broader Metal Gear storyline.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots concludes the story of Solid Snake, tasking him with confronting Liquid Ocelot and dismantling the Patriots, a shadowy organization controlling global conflicts. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, set after the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, follows Substantial Boss as he establishes his own military faction in Colombia and navigates a growing threat from a rival force developing nuclear weaponry.

Currently, the collection is confirmed for release on the PlayStation 5. Konami has separately confirmed plans to release the collection on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S, according to IGN, though a specific release date for those platforms has not been announced.

Konami released a statement confirming a post-launch update for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, adding new visual updates to the games within that collection.
