Meta Launches Pocket: New AI App for Vibe-Coding Interactive Gizmos

August 20, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

Meta is rolling out its experimental standalone social app Pocket in the United States, allowing users to generate interactive mini-games and memes called “gizmos” through natural language text prompts, according to reporting from Business Insider, TechSpot, and TechCrunch. The software runs on Meta Superintelligence Labs’ Muse Spark model and originates from the team behind Atma Sciences Inc., an AI startup founded by ex-Snapchat staffers that Meta acquired earlier this year.

The operational expansion marks a calculated escalation in Meta’s standalone application strategy, which gained momentum following the commercial adoption of Threads.

Infrastructure and Acquisition Background

The underlying architecture of Pocket stems from a strategic asset acquisition executed earlier this year. According to Business Insider scoops, Meta hired the engineering team behind Atma Sciences and secured a non-exclusive license for its core technology. That integration has resulted in the immediate winding down of Atma Sciences’ original Gizmo application, which announced its formal shutdown on Thursday after accumulating 635,000 lifetime installs across iOS and Google Play with a 98% positive sentiment score, per Appfigures data cited by TechCrunch.

App intelligence provider Appfigures recorded Pocket’s initial quiet deployment on the App Store and Google Play on June 29, 2026. Early regional testing concentrated in Brazil before expanding into broader closed-testing frameworks across Google Play and the US market. Reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi first surfaced the Play Store listing details on X, noting that the application leverages device camera permissions and photo galleries to facilitate user-generated media.

Product Mechanics and the Vibe-Coding Feed

Pocket discards traditional static media feeds in favor of a vertical scrolling interface populated entirely by interactive components. Users type natural language prompts into a text editor powered by Meta’s Muse Spark model, instructing the system to construct custom mini-games or animated memes within seconds. The resulting posts, termed gizmos, respond to touch, tilt, dragging, and tapping gestures.

Platform functionality includes:

  • Natural language prompt generation for instant code-free app creation
  • Remixing tools allowing users to adapt and alter existing gizmos published by others
  • Playlist curation features that let users save and share collections of interactive mini-games similar to audio tracks
  • Social interaction layers supporting likes, comments, and link-sharing without direct messaging capabilities

Portfolio Expansion and Future Monetization

Pocket joins a growing cohort of standalone applications deployed by Meta to diversify its product ecosystem beyond the core family of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Recent additions include Instants, a Snapchat competitor; Forum, designed for Facebook groups; Creator Studio, built for independent publishers; and Vibes, a standalone AI video creation platform. While current versions of Pocket do not feature advertisements, industry analysts anticipate future monetization pathways through interactive brand sponsorships and creator-driven commercial gizmos.
