Meta Unveils Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses wiht Integrated Display, New AI Features at Connect 2024
SAN JOSE, CA - September 25, 2024 – Meta today announced a significant expansion of its smart glass lineup at its annual Connect conference, introducing the Oakley Meta Vanguard with a built-in display and a second generation of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses boasting enhanced AI capabilities and improved hardware.
The Oakley meta Vanguard, developed in partnership with Oakley, features a first-of-its-kind open-ear architecture and a micro-LED display. These glasses offer features like slow motion and hyperlapse video modes, and an autocapture function that initiates recording based on speed or distance. They are IP67 rated for dust and water resistance and include swappable shield-style lenses. Preorders are open now, with availability beginning October 21st, priced at $499.
Alongside the Oakley Vanguard, Meta showcased the 2nd generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. These updated glasses record video at 3K resolution using a 12MP ultrawide camera and offer twice the battery life of their predecessors - up to 8 hours on a single charge, expandable to 48 hours with the included charging case. New features include Conversation Focus, designed to amplify the voice of a person you’re speaking with in noisy environments, activated through a Meta AI request.
Meta also demonstrated Live AI, an AI conversational partner offering up to an hour of use. A demonstration of the feature, involving a request for a “Korean-inspired steak sauce” recipe, experienced technical difficulties during the presentation, which presenters attributed to Wi-Fi connectivity issues. The 2nd-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses are available now, starting at $379.
