‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Sequel Gains Momentum with First Teaser trailer
New York, NY – The highly anticipated sequel to the 2006 hit comedy The Devil Wears Prada has released its first teaser trailer, signaling a summer release amidst a crowded slate of sequels. The film, directed by David Frankel, will see the return of Emily Blunt and, notably, Meryl Streep reprising her iconic role as Miranda Priestly.
The sequel finds Priestly navigating the challenges of a collapsing magazine industry, requiring her to forge an alliance with her former assistant, Emily (Blunt), now leading a luxury brand and controlling meaningful advertising revenue. joining the cast are kenneth Branagh as Priestly’s new husband, Simone Ashley, Rachel Bloom, and Lucy Liu, with reported cameos from lady Gaga and Sydney Sweeney.
The original The Devil Wears Prada, based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger, grossed over $326 million worldwide and inspired a West End musical. Reflecting on the original film’s impact, Blunt stated in September, “When we made the first movie, none of us expected the meteoric life that it would have and the impact it would have on people.” She also noted the film “has deep emotional roots” for her and Stanley Tucci, who later became her brother-in-law.
The character of Miranda Priestly has long been perceived as inspired by Anna Wintour, the outgoing editor-in-chief of Vogue. Wintour recently commented on the original film, stating it “had a lot of humour to it. It had a lot of wit. It had Meryl streep. I mean, it was Emily Blunt, [and] they were all amazing. I thought it was a fair shot.”
Filming has drawn attention from photographers and fans, taking place in locations from Brooklyn to Milan. Anne Hathaway, also returning for the sequel, has a busy year ahead, with roles in Mother Mary alongside Michaela Coel, the Colleen hoover adaptation Verity with Dakota Johnson, the sci-fi thriller Flowervale Street with Ewan McGregor, and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey with Tom Holland and Zendaya.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated for release this summer alongside other sequels including Scary movie 6,Toy Story 5,minions 3,and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
