Rollins adn Vermeulen Crowned Champions at 2025 Chequamegon MTB Festival
CHEQUAMEGON,WI – Alexey Vermeulen and Kyan Olshove delivered electrifying performances at the 2025 Chequamegon 40 Pro Men’s race, securing the top two spots on the podium in a thrilling finish. Vermeulen took the win with a time of 1:56:39, followed closely by Olshove (1:56:43) and Brendan Johnston (1:56:43).
The race saw Vermeulen make a decisive move, opening a fifteen-second gap before the two-mile-to-go checkpoint. “I started trying to make my moves with around seven miles to go,” Vermeulen said after the race. “I could see the group was splintering, and guys were chasing to regain contact, and I knew the rubber band would eventually snap and gaps would start to open up. So I just bided my time… I just trusted myself, saw the gap happen, and just committed.” The victory marks a critically important rebound for Vermeulen following a challenging performance at Unbound Gravel.
The tightly contested race saw seven riders finish within a single second of each other, claiming positions four through ten. Torbjørn Andre Røed, Cobe Freeburn, Laws Lange, simon Pellaud, Cameron Jones, Payson McElveen, and Andrew L’Esperance all finished with a time of 1:56:44 or 1:56:45.
Notably, Olshove, a cross-country mountain bike racer from Michigan, achieved a career-best result in the Life Time Grand Prix series. The race also impacted the overall series standings, with Swenson finishing outside the top ten while rivals Røed and Pellaud gained ground.
