Two teenage boys have been charged following a series of alleged attempted carjackings in Melbourne’s east overnight.
Police allege the teenagers threatened to carjack two cars on Seymour Street in Ringwood around 11:15 p.m. Officers, alerted by a witness providing live updates, intervened during a second attempt, arresting both suspects at the scene. One suspect attempted to flee and was subdued with a taser. No injuries were reported.
A 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy have been charged with attempted carjacking and are scheduled to appear in children’s court today.
In a separate incident, a food delivery driver was allegedly approached by up to four people on Lester Avenue in Ringwood around 2:00 a.m.Police state one of the individuals opened the driver’s side door, brandished an edged weapon, and demanded the car keys. The driver escaped into a nearby property unharmed.
The group then allegedly stole the driver’s toyota Yaris, which remains unlocated as of this report. An inquiry into this incident is ongoing.
