Meghan Markle Reportedly in Talks to Return to Acting Amid UK Move
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is in ongoing discussions to potentially return to acting by joining the third season of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series “The Gentlemen,” according to a person familiar with the talks reported by CNN. While conversations remain hypothetical and no deal is finalized, the potential casting highlights a career pivot as the Sussex family prepares to relocate back to the U.K. by the end of this month.
The prospect of Meghan stepping back in front of the camera comes as a surprise, mirroring the turns that have characterized her professional path since stepping back from royal life in 2020. According to Deadline, which first reported the potential casting, no specific role has been identified yet for the Duchess, and “The Gentlemen”—starring English actor Theo James—has not yet received an official renewal for a third season from Netflix. The second season of the series is slated to debut on the streaming platform next month. Representatives for Meghan, Archewell Productions, and Guy Ritchie were reached by CNN, while Netflix declined to comment.
This potential return to scripted television would mark a shift from Meghan’s recent unscripted media ventures. Following the 2023 streaming resurgence of her former legal drama “Suits” on Netflix, Meghan starred as paralegal-turned-attorney Rachel Zane before putting her acting career on hold in 2018 after getting engaged to Harry. At the time, she described her departure from the USA legal drama as hitting the 100-episode milestone and checking a box on a successful chapter of her career.
In the intervening years, Meghan and Harry established Montecito, California, as their base, launching Archewell Productions and securing a multi-year production deal with Netflix for exclusive films, docuseries, and children’s programming. Their contribution to Netflix was the 2022 three-episode docuseries “Harry & Meghan.” More recently, Meghan hosted her at-home entertaining and recipe series “With Love, Meghan,” which ran for two seasons following its 2025 debut, and partnered with Lemonada Media for her podcast work after leaving Spotify. She has also spent time expanding her lifestyle brand, As Ever, which offers jarred jams, tea sets, and candles, alongside a small cameo appearance as herself in the upcoming MGM Amazon comedy “Close Personal Friends” starring Jack Quaid and Brie Larson.
The potential return to acting coincides with a domestic transition for the family. Australian news outlet news.com.au previously suggested that an undisclosed role in an upcoming project could be a driving factor behind the Sussex family’s decision to move their household back to Britain. Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are already enrolled at British schools ahead of the new year starting in September, and the family is set to reside in a private residence outside of London.
Whether these preliminary conversations materialize into a concrete onscreen return will depend on production timelines as the Sussex family settles into their new routine across the Atlantic.
