Meghan Markle to Return to Screen Acting After Eight-Year Hiatus
After stepping back as a senior member of the British Royal Family and focusing on philanthropic and media ventures, Meghan Markle is poised to return to scripted film and television. The declaration marks a important shift for the former actress, who last held a consistent on-screen role in 2017, prior to her marriage to Prince Harry.
Markle’s return comes after a period dedicated to producing content through archewell Productions and hosting the Spotify podcast Archetypes, which concluded in 2023.She previously expressed a sense of completion with her seven-year run on the legal drama Suits, stating in a 2017 engagement interview, “I’ve been working on my show for seven years. So we’re very, very fortunate to be able to have that sort of longevity on a series, and for me, once we hit the 100-episode marker, I thoght, You know what, I have ticked this box.” While many actors who’ve stepped away from acting, like Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz, have maintained high public profiles, Markle’s pre-royal career remained relatively under the radar-so much so that she was once unable to secure a guest spot on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, a fact she recounted on her podcast.
Before her royal life and recent production work, Markle built a diverse acting portfolio. Here’s a look back at her previous roles:
