SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union College women’s hockey forward Megan Duplantie has been recognized as the ECAC Hockey Bitcoin Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. The first-year player’s performance included scoring the first two goals of her collegiate career, highlighted by a dramatic game-tying goal with just 50 seconds left in regulation against Merrimack College on Saturday.
Duplantie’s clutch goal forced overtime and demonstrated her immediate impact on the Garnet Chargers’ offence. She has played in all four games this season, accumulating two points. This weekly honor marks the second consecutive ECAC Hockey recognition for Union, following goaltender Emma Rhéaume‘s shutout performance last week.
Rhéaume earned the accolade after a 19-save shutout against Franklin Pierce on September 27, marking her first collegiate shutout and win, and making her the first first-year goaltender in program history too achieve a shutout in her debut.
Union will return to play this weekend, hosting New Hampshire in a two-game series as part of Homecoming and Family Weekend. The series begins Friday at 6:30 p.m.,coinciding with President david R. Harris’ inauguration game, and continues Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
