Medically Proven Acupuncture for Anti-Aging & Wellness Benefits

February 13, 2026 Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor Health

Jakarta – Modern medical acupuncture is increasingly recognized as a scientifically-backed approach to anti-aging and overall wellness, integrating seamlessly with conventional medicine, according to Dr. Rina Nurbani, a specialist in medical acupuncture. Dr. Nurbani presented these findings at a seminar titled “Complete Medical Aesthetic and Wellness, Led by Specialist” held in Jakarta Selatan on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

Dr. Nurbani emphasized that medical acupuncture differs significantly from traditional perceptions of acupuncture as merely an alternative therapy. The term itself originates from the Latin words acus (needle) and puncture (penetration). Though, modern practice is grounded in rigorous clinical testing and integration with established medical science. “Acupuncture science has been integrated with conventional medicine, modern medicine, based on clinical trials,” she stated.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has acknowledged the efficacy of acupuncture by incorporating it into national health systems in numerous countries, Dr. Nurbani noted. This recognition stems from its demonstrated medical effectiveness.

Technically, the insertion of needles at specific acupuncture points stimulates cellular signaling pathways. This process influences cellular function through neurological, endocrine and immune systems, ultimately aiming to achieve homeostasis – a state of internal balance. When a needle penetrates the skin, it triggers the release of local inflammatory mediators, which are detected by nerve fibers. This signal travels to the spinal cord and then to the central nervous system, prompting the brain to regulate bodily needs, including hormone release.

In the context of anti-aging, acupuncture induces microtrauma that stimulates the proliferation phase of fibroblast cells. This, in turn, boosts the production of collagen and elastin, improves microcirculation in blood vessels and lymphatic flow, and ultimately leads to skin texture improvement and a natural inhibition of extracellular matrix degradation. Research conducted by Normawati in 2024 demonstrated that acupuncture can significantly improve nasolabial folds. A systematic study in 2025 indicated that combining acupuncture with medical therapy yielded more optimal results for patients suffering from insomnia than medication alone.

Beyond aesthetic applications, medical acupuncture has shown clinical efficacy in addressing autonomic nervous system disorders, including cardiovascular diseases, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), and degenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, all of which are closely linked to the aging process.

To minimize discomfort, modern medical acupuncture utilizes extremely fine needles. Dr. Nurbani employs needles measuring 0.14 mm in diameter, compared to the standard 0.25 mm, to maximize patient comfort without compromising therapeutic effects.

Dr. Nurbani concluded by stressing that medical acupuncture is an evidence-based, integrative approach. “Acupuncture doesn’t leverage drugs, it simply maximizes the body’s ability to heal itself,” she said. Bamed, a provider of Complete Medical Aesthetic and Wellness services, is integrating these techniques, alongside precision nutrition and aesthetic medicine, to offer comprehensive anti-aging and wellness solutions led by medical specialists.
