McKenzie Milton Enters UCF Athletics Hall of Fame After Historic Career

Quarterback coach McKenzie Milton entered the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday at the Celeste Hotel, joining a roster of program figures that includes former teammate Shaquem Griffin and former coach Mike Kruczek. Milton’s induction cements a legacy built on leading the Knights’ undefeated 2017 squad and a 12-1 team in 2018, achievements that earned the program a national championship recognition by the Colley Matrix during his playing career, sports.yahoo.com reported.

Milton Recalls Historic Run While Directing Current Quarterbacks

Back at his alma mater in a coaching role, Milton expressed his hope that UCF football can sustain its success for years to come. His playing tenure featured high-stakes victories, including a 62-55 AAC Championship shootout against Memphis where he threw for 494 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 68 yards and a score. He also guided the Knights past Auburn in the 2018 Chick-fil-A Bowl with 242 passing yards and two touchdowns alongside rushing yards, according to sports.yahoo.com.

That standard of play now guides his daily work with the current roster. The Knights' quarterback room has managed a turbulent season marked by a hamstring injury to star transfer Alonza Barnett III and back-to-back second-half collapses against ranked opponents.

Jenkins Responds to Coaching Under Milton and Frost

With Barnett listed as questionable on Wednesday’s injury report, quarterback Keyone Jenkins remains prepared to start. Jenkins has improved in every game under the supervision of coach Scott Frost, offensive coordinator Steve Cooper, and Milton, producing back-to-back 200-plus-yard performances against the then-No. 20 Houston Cougars and then-No. 18 Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Jenkins also surpassed one of Milton’s single-game completion percentage records earlier this season. He completed 19 of 20 passes against the TCU Horned Frogs, eclipsing Milton’s mark of 24-for-26 against Austin Peay in 2017.

Ranked BYU Visit Tests Resurgent UCF Squad

The coaching staff faces its toughest test yet when the No. 2 BYU Cougars visit the Acrisure Bounce House. BYU stands as the highest-ranked program to play in Orlando since the No. 6 Texas Longhorns traveled to the venue in 2007, sports.yahoo.com reported.

Whether Barnett returns from injury or Jenkins takes the first snap against BYU, the offense will rely on the principles instilled by the architects of the program’s most successful era. Milton’s transition from record-setting signal-caller to sideline mentor puts him directly in position to shape how the Knights handle their latest ranked opponent.
