Two Arrested in Connection⁢ with ‍Alleged Perjury in Conor McGregor Appeal

Dublin,Ireland – Two individuals have been arrested‍ as part of a Garda (Irish police) examination into alleged perjury related to the appeal ⁢case of Conor McGregor. ⁤The‌ appeal concerned a civil court finding that McGregor had raped⁤ Nikita Hand at a Dublin hotel in December ⁣2018.

The investigation is being led by the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation and began after the⁤ matter was referred ‌to the Director ⁤of Public Prosecutions (DPP) by the Court of Appeal. The arrests took‌ place this morning, and both individuals – a man and a woman - are currently being questioned at a Dublin Garda station.

Under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, the⁣ detainees can be‌ held⁢ for up to 24 hours.⁤ This allows authorities⁣ time to gather evidence ‍and conduct interviews.

The case stems from events last July when McGregor initially sought to introduce ⁣new evidence during his appeal against the High Court⁤ jury’s finding. ‍Though, he unexpectedly withdrew this application shortly before ⁣the scheduled hearing.

Following the withdrawal, Ms.Hand’s senior⁤ counsel, John Gordon, suggested the Court refer‍ the matter to the DPP. He‍ argued the court possessed the⁤ authority ⁣to⁢ do⁢ so, and that such a referral would demonstrate concern regarding a potential abuse of ‍legal‌ processes.

the three judges presiding over⁣ the‍ appeal court afterward ‌reviewed relevant documentation and formally referred the case⁣ to the DPP, initiating the Garda criminal investigation.Thes ⁤arrests represent the first developments in the ⁤criminal investigation.
