PADUCAH, KY – McCracken County Attorney D. Cade Foster officially announced his bid for re-election Friday, setting the stage for a 2026 election that will determine who leads the county’s legal representation for the next four years.
Foster, first elected in December 2022, is seeking a second term to continue his work prosecuting cases in District Court and providing legal guidance to McCracken County’s government and officers. His decision to run again comes as the county faces ongoing needs for firm, fair prosecution and consistent legal counsel, impacting residents and local officials alike. The primary election is scheduled for May 19, 2026, with the general election following on November 3, 2026.
In a statement released Friday, Foster highlighted his office’s accomplishments during his first term, emphasizing efforts to enhance public safety. “We’ve made strides, but more work remains, and that’s why I’m asking for the voters of McCracken County to entrust me with another term,” he said.
As county attorney, foster is responsible for prosecuting misdemeanor criminal cases and traffic offenses within the county. He also represents the fiscal court and other county entities in legal matters. Beyond local duties, Foster serves on the Kentucky County Attorney Association Executive Board and the state Attorney general’s Child Support Advisory Council, advocating for the needs of western Kentucky.
“Representation on these boards provides another voice to the values and needs of the Purchase region, and I’m grateful that the Attorney General and the KCAA nominating commitee are ready to hear more from us,” Foster stated. He will appear on the ballot as D. Cade Foster, a republican. The county attorney position is a four-year term as mandated by the Kentucky Constitution.
