Verstappen Credits Father jos for Racing Success Ahead of US Grand Prix
AUSTIN, TX – Max Verstappen has lauded his father, Jos Verstappen, as a pivotal figure in his racing career, emphasizing the elder Verstappen’s dedication and expertise. speaking ahead of the United States Grand Prix, the four-time World Champion detailed the impact his father had from the beginning of his motorsport journey.
“I have experienced great things with my father since the moment I started racing,” verstappen said. “I found it very extraordinary how good he was as a driver, but also how he could then adjust my karts, for example. It is difficult to describe, but he made me the person I am today.”
Verstappen believes his father possesses the qualities of a prosperous team principal, though Jos has expressed no desire for such a role. “I think he woudl be a very good team boss. He won’t wont that, but he has so much knowledge,” Verstappen stated. The pair continue to discuss racing strategy, encompassing both Formula 1 and GT cars, during race weekends.
“My father can help me with many things. He has given me so much knowledge and experience and sacrificed a lot for my career. I have never seen anyone else so committed to providing their son with the best opportunities. He always gave 110 percent,” Verstappen added.
Despite leading the championship standings by 63 points with six races remaining, Verstappen downplayed the title fight, stating, “I just don’t think about it too much. I try to get the most out of it every weekend, in that respect it doesn’t matter whether I’m first or third.”
Acknowledging recent performance, Verstappen noted the team’s progress despite a second-place finish in Singapore. “The last three races were very good, although I don’t think we got the most out of the car in Singapore. But it’s clear that the team is on the right track. Confidence is high and we understand better what the car is capable of.”
