Max Richter Composes a Scent: New Perfume “01” Explores the Link Between Sound and Memory

NEW YORK,NY – Renowned German-British composer and pianist Max Richter,celebrated for emotionally resonant works like “Recomposed: Vivaldi – The Four Seasons” and “On the Nature of Daylight,” is expanding his artistic palette. He’s partnered with Comme des Garçons Parfums to launch “01 Eau De Toilette,” a fragrance designed not just to be smelled, but remembered.
The collaboration, born from creative discussions between Richter, his partner Yulia Mahr, and Comme des Garçons Parfums President Adrian Joffe, aims to translate the composer’s sonic sensibilities into the world of scent. “I’ve always wanted to compose a perfume as, in my mind, scent and sound are sisters,” Richter explains. “In both mediums you work by relying on, or being in touch with, the things you don’t yet know, and that is really exciting to me.”
