Mattel and Lucha Libre AAA Announce Global Action Figure Partnership

July 24, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Mattel, Inc. and WWE announced a multi-year global licensing agreement on July 23, 2026, at their joint San Diego Comic-Con panel, expanding Mattel’s portfolio to include Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide action figures beginning in Fall 2027. According to official company disclosures, the deal brings the Mexican promotion’s iconic masks and characters into Mattel’s action figure line, which was anchored by the top-ranked Mattel WWE Elite Collection in 2025 according to Circana retail tracking data.

Expanding the Portfolio: The Business Mechanics of the AAA Partnership

The strategic integration of Lucha Libre AAA into Mattel’s catalog follows WWE’s acquisition of AAA in August 2025, executed in partnership with the Mexico-based sports and entertainment holding company Fillip. According to Abby Esrock, Vice President of Revenue at WWE, the collaboration leverages AAA’s established footprint across Latin America to drive the collectibles category forward. Nick Karamanos, General Manager and Head of Entertainment Partnerships at Mattel, noted that bringing the 30-year-old family-operated promotion into the fold builds directly on the existing collaboration with WWE.

Audience Metrics and the Global Lucha Libre Market

According to company disclosures, the August 2025 broadcast of Triplemanía drew more than 4.3 million views within 24 hours, hitting a peak of 614,000 concurrent live viewers. Additional momentum has been generated by high-profile cards such as the Mask vs. Mask main event at Noche de Los Grandes, alongside preparations for a two-day Triplemanía 34 event spanning Mexico City and Las Vegas.

Initial Product Rollout and Collectibles Roadmap

The upcoming Fall 2027 product line will highlight prominent AAA talent, including Psycho Clown, El Hijo del Viking, La Parka, and Mr. Iguana. To mark the initial announcement, Mattel Creations debuted a made-to-order Mr. Iguana action figure at San Diego Comic-Con as the opening item in the new collection. Further product availability and release dates will be released through official brand channels.
