Marrakech Film Festival opens with a burst of Color and Style
Marrakech, Morocco – November 28, 2023 – The 22nd edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival launched Friday evening with a dazzling display of cinematic prestige and high fashion, as stars descended upon the Moroccan city. While Bong Joon-ho, president of the jury, heralded Marrakech’s enduring importance to world cinema, a vibrant undercurrent of style emerged, with actresses laura Smet and Chiara Mastroianni leading the charge in bold color choices.
the festival, wich runs through December 7th, promises a showcase of international films vying for the coveted Golden Star. Joon-ho, alongside jurors including Jenna Ortega, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Julia Ducournau, formally opened the event, each speaking in their native language. A tribute to Egyptian actor Hussein Fahmi,reflecting on his early work filmed in Marrakech in the 1970s,and a screening of Gus Van Sant’s latest film,further marked the celebratory opening.
However, it was the arrival of the actresses that sparked a particular fashion buzz. Laura Smet captivated onlookers in a striking purple dress, posing alongside director thierry Klifa, while Chiara mastroianni made a notable appearance, demonstrating a willingness to embrace color amidst the typically understated elegance of such events.
