Last week’s column concluded with anticipation: what had Peter planned for my birthday? It turned out to be a gift of shared relaxation-a day at the sauna for both of us. I genuinely appreciate this gesture; it’s about quality time together without the pressure of material possessions or elaborate plans. Peter has never experienced a sauna before, so I’m eager to see his reaction.
My birthday itself was pleasant. We enjoyed a appetizing meal and then visited a local fair. There wasn’t a large celebration, just a quiet and cozy atmosphere. At the fair, we attracted some attention, with people glancing at us and whispering. It’s amusing how manny now believe we’re recognizable from B&B full of love rather than married at First Sight; the realization frequently enough dawns later, which is quite funny.
We’ve also noticed increased online attention. When we began sharing our lives, we hadn’t considered this aspect. Now, a growing number of people are following our journey, and surprisingly, they seem to enjoy it. Despite lacking drama or sensational events-perhaps we’re “boring television”-it appears to resonate with viewers, offering a sense of recognition and tranquility. I receive numerous kind messages via Instagram, and haven’t encountered any negative feedback.
The inquiries are sometimes unexpected. People ask about my glasses, skincare routine, and request more candid videos. I never anticipated such interest, and I find it incredibly flattering. It’s a welcome surprise.
We’re also receiving guidance from those more experienced with social media.Suggestions include posting multiple photos instead of single images, and prioritizing pictures of us together over static subjects like cakes. A photo with baking, then-a win-win situation, right?
It’s crucial for us to continue doing what we enjoy. Free cinema tickets? Absolutely. A weekend getaway? Bring it on. However, I’ll continue baking, and Peter enjoys filming.Perhaps an online series titled Baking with Maris will emerge someday…
I’ll soon be spending a week in Noordwijk, the town where Peter resides. In the next column, he’ll share our experiences there. And, a special note: July 29 marked our ninth wedding anniversary!
See you next time,
Mariska
