Marisa Abela Says ”I Do” in Emilia Wickstead gown at east sussex Wedding to Jamie bogyo
East Sussex, England – September 13, 2024 – Industry and Back to Black star Marisa abela married West End performer jamie Bogyo on Saturday in a stunning, Old Hollywood-inspired ceremony in East Sussex. The couple,who met at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2016,exchanged vows after a whirlwind romance and a romantic proposal on Primrose Hill.
Abela,radiant for the occasion,wore a custom gown by British designer Emilia wickstead,channeling classic glamour for the intimate festivity.
The couple’s connection dates back to their first year at RADA. “We were best friends throughout the course, and Jamie finally asked me out when we were graduating in 2019,” Abela recalled. “We’ve been together ever since.”
Bogyo, known for his roles in The Devil Wears Prada and Moulin Rouge! The Musical, orchestrated a especially memorable proposal. He enlisted the help of Abela’s friend Polly to lure her to Primrose Hill under the guise of an art show. “Polly marched her up to the top of the hill and ran in the other direction when Marisa finally saw the picnic blanket and Champagne-then I came out of the trees and got on one knee,” Bogyo explained. He continued the celebration with a surprise gathering of family and friends at London’s Bocca di Lupo restaurant.
“It was amazing to be back where Jamie had literally walked into my life for the very first time,” Abela said of the proposal location, referencing their initial meet-and-greet at RADA in 2016.
Following the engagement, the couple enjoyed what they termed an “engagement moon” with a trip to Greece. “The next day we already had a holiday planned in Greece, so we sort of had an ‘engagement moon’-we highly recommend it!” Abela added.
The decision to marry in East Sussex was a personal one.”We took a good few months to just enjoy being engaged and celebrate during the summer,” Bogyo said. “In September, we started thinking about locations, and we landed in Brighton. Marisa was born and raised there, and it’s where we spent lockdown together.”
Their relationship blossomed quickly, with Bogyo moving in with Abela, her mother, and her brother just two months after they began dating instead of returning to New York. “It was a real jump in the deep end to have Jamie move in with me, my mum, and my brother instead of flying back to New York,” Abela admitted. “Miraculously,it worked!” The couple found solace and connection in the surrounding Sussex countryside,often taking walks on the Sussex Downs and along the coast,solidifying Brighton as their home.
