A total lunar eclipse, often called a “blood moon,” will occur on March 3, 2026, casting a dramatic red hue on the night sky. Although visible from parts of the Americas, Australia, and the Pacific, the eclipse will not be visible from Europe or Africa, as the moon will be below the horizon during the event.
The eclipse will reach its totality between 11:04 and 12:03 UTC on March 3, with the maximum point occurring at 11:33 UTC, according to information from Starwalk Space. This timing places the peak viewing opportunity just before dawn in much of the Americas, including Quebec and Haiti, during the night in the Pacific region – offering excellent visibility in French Polynesia – in the evening in Australia and New Caledonia, and after midnight on March 4 in New Zealand.
Astrologer Lysandre Moretti notes that this full moon coincides with a period of heightened emotional intensity. “The opposition of the Sun and Moon creates a tension,” Moretti explains, “bringing what was hidden to the surface.” This particular full moon falls in the sign of Virgo, amplifying qualities of order, detail, and method.
The eclipse is expected to intensify emotions, potentially leading to agitation and sleep disturbances. Memories and unresolved truths may resurface, demanding attention. However, Moretti suggests this can also be a time of valuable self-awareness and decision-making, provided individuals observe their feelings without rushing to judgment.
Certain astrological signs are predicted to be more significantly affected. Pisces may experience professional tensions or unsettling news, requiring careful consideration before making commitments. Virgos could struggle with nostalgia and a necessitate for control, advised to practice letting head. Geminis may feel overwhelmed by accumulating tasks and benefit from prioritizing and setting boundaries.
Conversely, Cancer is highlighted as potentially benefiting from the eclipse, with the possibility of new professional or personal opportunities. Taurus may find their creativity sparked, and Aries could experience strengthened support from their network.
Moretti recommends several practices to navigate the eclipse with greater ease, including practicing mindful breathing, journaling to clarify emotions, prioritizing sleep, and limiting major decisions in the 48 hours surrounding the event. She also emphasizes the importance of hydration, a simple diet, and seeking support from trusted individuals when needed.
This full moon is also known as the “Maple Sugar Moon,” coinciding with the time when maple sap begins to flow, symbolizing energy in motion and a need for transformation. The next total lunar eclipse will not occur until 2028.
