by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

Bungie announced today that players will have a chance to experience its upcoming survival extraction shooter, Marathon, in a “Server Slam” open preview weekend running from February 26 to March 2, 2026. The event will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

The Server Slam, which coincides with Steam Next Fest, will offer an introduction to Marathon’s gameplay, featuring a limited selection of maps, Runner shells, and contracts. Bungie plans to expand the available content with additional maps, factions, contracts, and gear following the game’s launch and during Season 1.

Players who complete the introductory mission during the Server Slam will receive a special emblem and banner to commemorate their participation when the full game launches on March 5. Bungie also announced that players will be able to earn tiered gear packages, including weapons and implants, for use in the full game.

Marathon casts players as bio-cybernetic Runners scavenging the lost colony of Tau Ceti IV, facing hostile security forces, rival Runners, and unpredictable environments. The colony ship, UESC Marathon, departed Mars in 2472 and arrived at its destination 300 years later, only to fall silent, leaving 30,000 colonists unaccounted for. The game is set in 2893, with Runners risking their lives to uncover the colony’s secrets.

PlayStation Plus members will receive exclusive weapon charms inspired by other popular PlayStation titles: Helldivers 2 (“For Freedom” charm), Death Stranding 2 (“Battle Guitar” charm), and Ghost of Yōtei (“Onryō” charm). These charms will be available for redemption on the PlayStation Plus Exclusive Packs page upon the game’s launch. Bungie has indicated that information regarding weapon charms for Xbox and Steam players will be released at a later date.

Marathon will be available in Standard and Deluxe editions for PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X|S, and will feature full cross-play and cross-save functionality. The game is priced at $39.99/€39.99/£34.99.
