Maradona Trial: New Dates, Evidence, and Legal Disputes

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

Buenos Aires, Argentina ‍ – Five ⁤years after⁣ the death of football ⁣icon Diego Maradona, his daughters, Dalma and Gianinna Maradona, have altered their Instagram profiles, removing references to their‍ father, according to reports from Minuto Uno. The changes come as a new trial related to Maradona’s death is ‍scheduled to begin ⁢on March 17, 2026, before Oral Criminal Court No. ⁢7 of San ‍isidro, comprised of ‌judges Alberto Gaig, Alberto ortolani,⁢ and Pablo ⁢Rolón. A hearing to review evidence and finalize the witness list is ‍set for December 2.

The initial trial was annulled, raising questions‍ about the scope of the reversal.⁣ Diego Olmedo, Díaz’s lawyer, ⁢expressed concern ⁤that the jury trial against Madrid remains scheduled despite the annulment of the⁤ hearing where that decision was made. He ‍noted ‍the trial involving the seven defendants will ‍proceed before the nurse’s trial, ‌potentially influencing the jury. “It’s messy,”⁢ Olmedo stated.

Legal teams from both sides intend to request the streamlining of repetitive testimonies and the elimination of unnecessary procedures. Olmedo suggested limiting testimony from doctors at Ipensa and the Olivos Clinic ‌to avoid redundancy, and questioned the need to re-summon the homeowner who previously ‌testified.

Concerns have also been raised regarding the status of prior raids, forensic evidence, and testimonies. Miguel Ángel Pierri questioned whether those previously raided will be subjected to further searches and whether seized items will ⁤remain sequestered, adding, “he who declared badly will be able to do better ⁣again.”

Some defenses are invoking the principle of non bis in idem – the prohibition of being tried twice for the same facts -⁤ though its success is considered unlikely as⁤ the previous trial did not result⁤ in a sentence.
