A 40-year-old man was sentenced to 18 months in jail and ordered to pay 1500 yuan in compensation on Thursday, October 22, after admitting to intentionally distributing intimate photos and videos of his cohabiting girlfriend. zaobao.com.sg reported that the defendant used ChatGPT to draft emails containing the victim’s confession audio and a 39-second masturbation video, sending them to approximately 20 recipients including her superiors and school colleagues.

The case unfolded from a relationship that began in January 2025 through a dating application. By February 2025, the defendant had moved into the victim’s home, where she lived with her child. During their relationship, the defendant asked the victim to record sex videos, which she agreed to. In May 2025, the defendant grew suspicious of the victim’s fidelity and confirmed his suspicions by checking her phone.

On June 25, 2025, a confrontation at home led the defendant to use his phone to record the victim confessing to infidelity with multiple men. The argument escalated into a physical tussle as the defendant packed his bags, prompting the victim’s child to call the police. Before officers arrived, the defendant left the residence.

Blocked on communication platforms, the defendant searched online for the victim’s work email as well as the addresses of her colleagues and boss. He used ChatGPT to draft the initial email featuring the audio confession, sending it on June 27, 2025, to the school’s feedback inbox, an administrative shared inbox, four of her supervisors, and copying the victim and her colleague. At 1:57 a.m., he followed up with a second email containing the masturbation video and identifying the victim by name.

The court considered the charge of intentionally distributing intimate media alongside two additional charges for mischief and one violation of the Films Act.
