Man Dies, ⁤Woman Injured in Hackney⁤ ParkShooting ​- Police Investigate

A man has died adn a woman ​was ‌injured in a shooting at Clissold Park in Hackney, east London, on Wednesday ‍evening.

Police ‍responded to reports of gunshots at approximately 7:06 PM, according⁣ to the metropolitan Police. A man⁢ in ⁤his 40s was treated at the scene for gunshot wounds before being pronounced dead in hospital. Authorities are currently working to inform his‍ next of kin.

A ‍woman, also in her 40s, received treatment from paramedics from the London‍ Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance and remains hospitalized.Police are awaiting an ​update on her condition.

A ​firearm believed to be used in the incident ‍has been​ recovered​ from the park.

detective Superintendent Oliver​ Richter, responsible ⁤for policing ‌in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, stated, “We understand this is a deeply distressing incident for those⁣ involved, the witnesses in the park and the⁣ community in the surrounding area.​ We are in the early ​stages of the investigation,‌ but ⁤we believe the man and woman are known to one another and at this time, we are treating it as an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public.”

DS richter ⁢added, “Officers are working at pace to establish the full circumstances of the incident and will continue to support those who are affected. A ⁢crime scene ⁣remains in‌ place for investigation with an increased police presence.”

Hackney ⁤Council confirmed it is assisting police with their investigation⁣ and announced that Clissold Park will remain closed Thursday morning, with ​an update on its ⁤reopening to follow.

Hackney Mayor Caroline ‍Woodley expressed her ⁤concern on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Such a terrible event. Thank you so much to the emergency services for the swift response.⁢ I hope the woman and all those affected have all the support they need – I will be following up to⁤ make⁢ sure.”
