New Britain Man Arrested in Fatal Route 9 Motorcycle Crash
Fatal motor vehicle accidents, particularly those involving lane changes and motorcyclists, remain a significant concern on Connecticut’s roadways. route 9, a major north-south artery, has historically seen its share of traffic incidents. The arrest of Gabriel Figueroa highlights the legal ramifications of negligent driving and evading responsibility in fatal collisions.
BERLIN, CT – A 25-year-old New Britain man, Gabriel Figueroa, was taken into state police custody Wednesday, July 23, in connection with a fatal crash on Route 9 in September 2024. The collision claimed the life of the Rev. paul David Kramplitz, a beloved 65-year-old Connecticut State Police chaplain from Cromwell.
Figueroa faces charges including negligent homicide with a motor vehicle,evading responsibility for a crash that resulted in death,and failure to maintain a proper lane. He was held on a $100,000 court-set bond and was scheduled to appear at New Britain Superior Court.
State police reported that Figueroa surrendered himself to Troop H in Hartford following the issuance of an arrest warrant. The warrant was a result of the investigation into the Sept. 18, 2024, fatal motor vehicle accident.
the investigation persistent that Figueroa caused the collision and initially left the scene. Kramplitz,who was operating a Harley-davidson motorcycle,was killed when his vehicle collided with Figueroa’s 2006 Chevrolet Impala.
According to the accident report, Kramplitz was traveling in the left lane of Route 9 North near Exit 33. Figueroa,driving the Impala,was in the right lane ahead of the motorcycle.At approximately 4:14 p.m., the Impala encroached into the left lane, colliding with Kramplitz’s motorcycle.
the impact threw Kramplitz from his motorcycle,which came to rest on the left shoulder. He sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to New Britain Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Figueroa, the driver of the Impala, was not injured and declined medical treatment.
