Sam Houston’s Alex Malanga Earns Conference USA Golfer of the Week Honors
DALLAS – sam Houston State sophomore Alex Malanga has been recognized as the Conference USA Men’s Golfer of the Week, the league announced wednesday, following a standout performance at the Git-R-Done Invitational. The accolade acknowledges Malanga’s extraordinary individual showing and solidifies the Bearkats‘ position as contenders within the conference.
malanga’s fourth-place finish at the recent tournament not only highlighted his personal skill but also contributed to Sam Houston’s sixth-place team result. This weekly honor is significant as it reflects the rising talent within the Bearkats’ golf programme and sets a positive tone for their upcoming competitions. malanga’s consistent performance demonstrates the program’s potential for success in Conference USA.
The Woodlands native concluded the 54-hole Git-R-Done Invitational at 6-under par, carding rounds of 71, 67, and 69. Throughout the event, Malanga recorded a total of 14 birdies, including an impressive six during his second-round 67. He finished with only one blemish on his scorecard during the final round, adding four more birdies.
This marks the second tournament of the season where Malanga has finished under par, continuing a trend of strong play that began with a 67 in the final round of the Cincinnati bearcat Invitational.He has now recorded under-par rounds in three of his last four competitive appearances.
Malanga and the Bearkats will continue their fall season at the Trinity Forest Invitational, hosted by SMU in Dallas, October 5-7.
