Catalonia Announces October 15, 2025 Start Date for Fall Vaccination Campaign
Barcelona, Spain – Catalonia has announced its autumn vaccination campaign against influenza and other respiratory viruses will begin on October 15, 2025, coinciding with the expected peak circulation period. The regional administration has allocated approximately €33 million for the purchase of two million vaccine doses.
this proactive measure aims to protect vulnerable populations and mitigate the impact of seasonal respiratory illnesses. The campaign will focus on influenza vaccination for individuals over 60, patients with chronic conditions, pregnant women, and children aged between 6 months and 4 years, as well as residents of elderly care facilities. Additionally, Catalonia will implement a programme utilizing monoclonal antibodies to immunize roughly 50,000 infants under 6 months against the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), a leading cause of bronchitis.
Approximately 1.6 million of the acquired doses are dedicated to influenza vaccination, recognizing the potential for the virus to trigger not only respiratory infections but also cardiovascular complications. The campaign underscores the importance of preventative healthcare and aims to reduce the strain on the regional healthcare system during the fall and winter months.
